our History

In early 1965 Etta Belle and Grady Harris had a dream of a Church of God of Prophecy in Russell Springs. They began bible studies and eventually held services in a rented building on Main Street. The Harris’s donated a lot on Highway 80 to the fledging congregation and construction began on a small church building. They were able to have  their first service in the new building on December 4th, 1965.

The church prospered and they began to outgrow their building. In 1978 A decision was made to add a basement which provided Sunday School rooms, a fellowship hall, and a kitchen. In 1986 a remodel of the building occurred, both inside and out. A foyer and a new pulpit area were added, and the exterior was bricked, creating an appealing and inviting atmosphere to the property.

The church continued to grow, and it was apparent the present location could not meet their needs much longer. The vision for a new building took hold in the hearts of the members and plans were made to build a new, modern building.

On September 1st, 1998, the Columbia COGOP merged with the Russell Springs Church. This merger increased the need to build.

In July of 1999, our current property on North Highway 127 was purchased. Construction began in March 2001. Construction was completed and the first service was held on February 17th, 2002.

In 2008, 3 lots beside the church were purchased with the intent of someday seeing a family/youth center built.

In 2009, while still maintaining affiliation with the Church of God of Prophecy, the membership voted to change the name of the local body to Greater Hope Christian Fellowship.

In 2024 God provided funding to build a Ministry and Youth center on the three lots that was purchased in 2008.

In November of 2024 the Jamestown COGOP merged with Greater Hope.

In February of 2025 ground was broken and construction soon began. In August of 2025 adjoining three lots were purchased which will provide parking and room for further expansion.

This project will be completed sometime in mid-spring to early summer. The ministry center will provide amenities for ministry, resources, and fellowship for our church and our community!
